Are you part of the solution or part of the problem?
ICAN is a grassroots, volunteer organization. We have no paid staff, no paid board members. We are women who know that something has to change and we are willing to do our part to make that change. What can you do?
First, become a member of ICAN. For $30 a year, you receive a year's subscription to ICAN's quarterly newsletter The Clarion, 10% off at the ICAN store and a discounts for upcoming ICAN conferences (next tentatively scheduled for 2009). Subscribe through your local chapter and support women in your area who don't want a cesarean, are recovering from one or are planning a VBAC.
Attend meetings at your local chapter. Be part of the solution "on the ground" -- meeting and supporting other women who care about how babies are born and how their mothers give birth.
No chapter in your area? Its easy to start one -- Michigan only has one active chapter and we need more! Contact the Midwest Regional Coordinator, Gretchen Humphries, for more information on how to get started.
Are you a birth professional? A doula, a childbirth educator, midwife or other birth-related professional? ICAN offers a professional subscription rate at $80 a year which not only gets you discounts and a year's subscription to The Clarion but also includes a listing on ICAN's Professional Referral Network website. ICAN is often the first place a woman looking for a "VBAC friendly" birth professional goes. We are growing rapidly, take advantage of what ICAN has to offer you.
